Default SGs letter to the Crew

Rudi has requested that I publish the following letter that was sent to the Crew in April. It details the thinking behind the boycott of future road trips to Columbus.

the letter

P.s - I don't belong to the NEE board. If someone could post a link over there I would appreciate it.

Nothing, as far as I know. But, I'll let Rudi respond directly with more detail (if he has any)

No direct response.

They believe their restrictions on banners/flags/etc. will aid in the security problems, though. Which is pretty dumb.

SOOOOO WHAAAATT! its not a perfect world, this shit happens all the time, specially at a football event! So if our Boys have their first playoff game in Colombus, and possibly the CONCACAF group stage this year we wont go and support them. I dont agree, this is not curling. Thats just my opinion!

meaning, they chose the cop out and easy route

instead of actually getting a competent security, Crew FO hopes that ban on everything is going to solve the problem

all I know is that in most business, if you did something that pissed off 1000+ paying customers, you'd get fired

The Columbus newspaper said a Crew management type suggested that if the Toronto people don't like their cops they should bring their own. Take the RCMP musical ride, and make banners like, We Won the War of 1812, stay home..

Tongue in cheek of course...

That was the coach, I believe.

It's pretty stupid of him to make light of it, especially when there were actually more Ohio residents arrested that day than Ontario residents.

The announcements of restrictions imply that by controlling opposing fans, problems can be contained. With that rationale, the opposing fans are to blame for the events in Columbus.

By saying its all our fault, they're indicating that the actions and measures they took were appropriate and justified. Which is bullshit.

I hope we meet the Crew in CONCACAF... It will be the roadtrip to end all roadtrips.

I have some pretty strong opinions about this letter and type of communication but will reserve my opinions to the Private Members forum.

Yeah, I got The Kingpin to edit it first.

Seriously though, what is wrong with it (aside from some redundancies that I noticed this morning, the first time I've read it in months)? It's a professional-type letter sent (physically) to the Crew front office. I wasn't going to type it as if it was an MSN conversation.

That said, I don't really see any "big" words, so I honestly have no idea what you're on about.

I honestly wonder if this would have had a different outcome if the SGs involved were Americans instead of from Canada. I doubt the Crew FO and local Police forces would be as uncooperative. Not enough "my fellow Americans" in it.

Its a good letter, expresses our grievances in a professional manner and allows them an opportunity to respond / make changes.

Its a shame that the Crew dont need our ticket / beer / food money and the state of Ohio dont need our accomodation / travel / tourist money.

this may seem off topic but they did point out damage to their stadium. I never went to columbus but i saw a lot of seats at saputo stadium popped out when we won the cup

What would MLSE have to do with any of this?

When their fans come here, the TFC FO is top notch in dealing with them. They provide increased security in their section, and escort them through the stadium concourse to their buses.

We get nowhere near the same courtesy from the Crew FO, despite the fact that during the past two games we represented 15 to 20 per cent of the total attendance in their building.

TFC can talk to them and give them advice on how to handle away support professionally, and they have done so, but that's really all they can do. It is entirely the responsibility of the Crew and Crew Stadium to provide a safe environment for all paying fans, regardless of which team they happen to cheer for on the day.

I live in Columbus and have been to every Crew v Toronto FC match at Crew Stadium and in my opinion I'm glad you guys are not coming back. Without question the Toronto FC fans are the rudest most obnoxious fans in the league. I've been called more bad things for doing nothing but supporting my team by more Toronto FC fans then I care to remember. Please stay away.

good letter...it gets the point across...but even if we have more matchs with the KKKlowns (concacaf) we probably should avoid attending those as well, save our away support for the carribean teams
